Townend care home in Keighley held a garden party to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.聽

Residents and care colleagues at Townend Close care home came together to celebrate the historic event but also remember those who laid down their lives.

Those living at Townend Close on Victoria Road were transported back in time by the garden party through activities that included vintage games, a sing-along, and 1940鈥檚 themed menu. All the money raised on the day will go to the Tommy Club.聽

Townend Close resident Dorothy Hall, 94, said:

It was very special to be able to mark VE Day in the company of those who also remember where they were. I鈥檇 like to thank everyone at Townend Close for organising the event.聽

Lian Clarkson, Home Manager of Townend Close, said:

It is important to honour and remember all those who fought in previous wars as a way to thank them for their courage. The older people we work with have set the foundation for future generations, and it鈥檚 thanks to them that we can enjoy the freedoms we have.

The garden party was the perfect way to mark VE Day but also bring together residents at Townend Close and their families.

The VE Day celebrations are just one way Anchor supports veteran residents, ensuring those who have served in the armed forces have the care they need. Anchor鈥檚 partnership with the Royal British Legion, and its 23 homes with Veteran Friendly Framework status, are helping to provide better access to care and support for veterans.
